My Author, My Hero
Rupi Kaur is a poet. She writes my favorite type of literature, poems. She inspires me with her powerful words. She got her fame from her instgram in 2015 because she was a young controversial voice of feminism. In a couple of years she has published two best selling poetry books. “Milk & Honey” and “The Sun and Her Flowers”. She is from the Indian race and it’s not common seeing a woman of race speaking up at such a young age. Her poems are powerful to me. I can relate so much and I can tell she pours her heart and soul into making these poems as good as possible. Her short yet very raw poems cover so many different topics from abuse, immigration, depression, relationships, hardships of both men and women. She’s inspired to one day hopefully write a poetry book of my own. It’s one of my goals but it seems unrealistic to me because I think no one will read. She showed me that it’s possible because she has 2 best selling books in 3 years at 24. Her personality and her voice inspire me to be a better person. Through her words on paper she has showed me that hard things will happen in life but you can’t give up because of that. You can accomplish anything if you get through a rough time.

In Thoreau’s Words
“This world is but a canvas to our imagination.”
The world, your life, is going to be what you make it. You decide what happens and where your life goes. The decisions you make lead you to where you want to go or want to be. Nothing can stop you from doing so. The world is here to make it whatever you want it to be.
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
This relates to the quote above. Do what YOU want to do. Don’t let anybody get in the way and especially don’t be influenced by society. Be confident in what you want to do in your life and the dreams you want to achieve.
“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.“
When you’re at place when you don’t know what is going with your life you get lost. Your mind and thoughts are all over the place. It takes getting lost within one’s self to find and understand ourselves. It’s like a sogn from out mind or conscience is trying to tell us something. There’s definitely something there and if you listen you’ll find yourself.

On Self-Reliance Essay
Ralph Emerson created the essay “On Self-Reliance” to show us how society affects our individualism. His title demonstrates what goes on with ourselves and what we do to rely on ourselves. On self-reliance defines his theme and purpose. His theme/purpose is to let an individual know that doing what society wants you to do is not the way you’re going to grow as a person. You have to avoid what society is wanting you to do and do what you think is right. As a person you have the ability to think and decide for yourself, so why should you use anybody else’s ability on yourself.
Emerson’s main idea was supported by his tone. His tone is very persuading and you can tell it’s something he really wants us to know and understand. Emerson said, "Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine providence has found for you, the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events." His choice of words reflects to his message and tone of the story. Ralph Emerson uses diction to persuade the people into believing in themselves. Various times in the story he uses allusions. "Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood." All these figures were "leaders" which were great. He is saying that when you're great, you're often misunderstood. People are always willing to comply with society because what they observe of those other individuals and they want to follow them.
I would use Emerson's idea and apply to my own life. I would apply this to the fact that people are trying to decide what I should study, as I get older. As of right now, I have no idea what I want to be. Recently, I've seen people having fun in there jobs and enjoying it. So I think to myself "maybe if I do that I'll be happy too." People are constantly putting thoughts in my head as to what I should do with my life. Society really affects the way you think and the decisions you make. If someone tell you you can't do something, you won't do it because they said something bad will happen. But what if you did do it and it was the best decision you've ever made and it leads to so many good things. Regret. Society affects you and makes you regret, sometimes. I have to find and know what is right for me. I have to find a 'passion', as cliche as that sounds, and use that to determine MY future for myself. The people around me are not going to determine what I do for the rest of my life. I have to be my own person.

Young Goodman Brown and Dream Within A Dream Essay
In the story of "Young Goodman Brown", by Nathaniel Hawthorne, we can assume that he was either dreaming, hallucinating or in some sort of non-reality situation. In the poem " A Dream Within A Dream", by Edgar Allen Poe, it's basically describing how you sometimes wish your dreams don't become a reality. Although, this poem and short story have similarities, they do have some differences.
"Young Goodman Brown" was written to show that sometimes dreams show you reality. In this case, it was things or people not being who they appear to be. After leaving his wife, Faith, Goodman enters a lonely forest encountering with an old man with a staff. Even though Goodman Brown was hesitant to continue to walk, he still walked through the forest. They continued walking and found themselves with Deacon Gookin and Goody Cloyse. After spending moments with these people, they were like role models to him. However, these people were really evil and in relation with the devil. Brown lost his 'Faith' completely and he also became evil. Brown was in a ceremony crying out loud, when there entered his wife Faith, but she could not here him. He later then woke up and everything seemed normal in the ceremony. In the poem " A Dream Within A Dream" it is explained that dreams seem hard to comprehend. In the second stanza it's basically explaining how sometimes it's difficult to remember dreams.
The poem and short story may seem similar, they have complete differences. Each author delivered a different message. In the poem it says "And I hold him within my hand Grains of the golden sand- How few! yet how they creep through my fingers to the deep, while I weep- while I weep!" ( stanza 2, lines 14-18). This is a representation of how hard it is to remember a dream and how you wish you can hold onto that dream longer. In the story it says "Often, awaking suddenly at midnight, he shrank from the bosom of Faith, and at morning or eventide, when the family knelt down at prayer, he scowled, and muttered to himself, and gazed sternly at his wife, and turned away" (par. 44). The author is talking about Brown's dream again and what happened on the night he lost his faith. These are two different examples of using images to understand a scenario.
Dreams can be so real that once you wake up from them, it seems as if you were still in them for a moment. The poem explains how dreams change the way you see things and make you question it. These pieces were very similar although one was a short detailed story while the other was a short poem.

What's Your Big Question?
Life is FULL of questions. There's questions for everything. Some stupid questions. Some helpful questions. Some interesting questions. Some emotional questions. My biggest question in life is what really happens to our body and soul after death? Is there life after death?

Was It Only A Dream
Young Goodman Brown is a tale where a man leaves society to come back with greater understanding and knowledge. He learns that people who he thought were pure are actually "friends" with the devil. Coming back from the woods, he doesn't even look at his wife the same. It seems like this story was all a dream but don't realities occur in dreams? So both reality and a dream. Or was he hallucinating? His body had enough without faith, he started hallucinating to gain back his knowledge.
